At Claybird Studio, pottery is more than about learning techniques. Our classes are designed to help you slow down, explore your creativity, and build confidence and connections through clay. Whether you're brand new to pottery or continuing your artistic journey, you'll find expert instruction, a supportive community, and plenty of room to grow at your own pace.

All Pottery Classes Include

Dedicated instruction, demonstrations and independent practice time
Unlimited Open Studio time during available Open Studio hours
One 25-lb bag of studio stoneware clay
Personal shelf space
Studio glazes and kiln firings for class and open studio work

For those with or without experience, our mixed-level classes are designed to help you tap into your own creative rhythm and build a sustainable pottery practice at any stage. You'll learn core techniques from an expert instructor, but the primary focus is on nurturing your personal artistic expression. Build confidence, develop new skills, and discover the joy of working with clay in a welcoming and supportive environment. Whether at the wheel or the worktable, this hands-on class encourages creativity, curiosity, and playful exploration.

Go beyond the basics in this Intermediate+ level class, where guided instruction supports a more self-directed studio experience. For potters with solid foundational skills, this class blends focused mentorship, demonstrations, and independent work time so you can experiment, refine your skills and build confidence to tackle more complex projects. With instructor support, you’ll work to bring your creative ideas to life - shifting from simply practicing techniques to truly owning your creative voice and artistic direction.

Ceramics: Hand-Building (Mixed Level)

4-WEEK OPTION
CLASS DETAILS
Hand-building is one of the most ancient and versatile forms of pottery-making, offering the freedom to create just about anything from clay! Explore foundational techniques in this 4-week mini session, including pinch, coil, and slab construction. During the first three classes, you’ll be guided through a variety of projects, with the final class dedicated to glazing your finished pieces. Projects may include dishes, mugs, vases, planters, and other functional pieces you can enjoy at home or give as gifts. Students can expect to complete at least three hand-built projects, with time to create even more during included Open Studio hours.
Beginner-focused, but those with experience are also welcome to join to explore their own creative ideas with instructor guidance.

Claybird Studio is committed to keeping classes accessible. If tuition feels like a stretch, please reach out - we’re happy to arrange a confidential payment plan. Online registration is available by credit card or PayPal. A discount may also be available if paying with Venmo or cash or referring friends. Once a class has begun, online registration closes. However, spots may still be open! Contact us directly if interested in joining at info@claybirdstudio.com or 201-264-2815. We can accommodate late registrations up to two weeks after the start of a class depending on the length of the session. Pro-rating for late sign-ups not available.
