About the Owner & Studio

Beth Wright, Owner and Operator of Claybird Studio, is a lifelong lover of clay—and birds (hence the name, Claybird Studio). She has been making and selling pottery for over 15 years and teaching just as long. Over the years, Beth has taught kids, teens, and adults in classes and private lessons, worked as a middle and high school art and ceramics teacher, and maintained her own private home studio.

A graduate of Ramapo College with a degree in Art & Theater (2004), Beth didn’t discover her true passion for ceramics until after graduation. She began her journey as a studio assistant and apprentice in New Jersey, where she and her family lived until relocating to the Finger Lakes region in 2022. During that time, she apprenticed under two accomplished studio owners, learning every aspect of running a pottery studio—from mixing glazes and recycling clay to loading kilns and teaching classes. These years of mentorship, combined with her own dedication, helped her refine her craft and gain a deep understanding of the art and business of ceramics.

Teaching remains Beth’s greatest joy. She is passionate about sharing the therapeutic benefits of working with clay and creating a space where people can learn, create, and connect. Claybird Studio is the realization of a 15-year dream: a welcoming, inclusive community where creativity flourishes, learning is encouraged, and everyone who enters feels a sense of belonging.
